If “Plan A” didn’t work, the alphabet has 25 more letters – stay cool!
Here at Ushi HQ, we love a Yorkshire success story – sportspeople who do well, musicians to make it big and businesses that thrive.
Most recently, the team here have been hugely inspired by Rotherham girl Ruth Lockwood in her efforts on ITV’s The Voice. Appearing during the very last spot on the very last audition date must have been exceedingly nerve wracking for the 23 year old, but Ruth shone with her unique style of “Popera” (as coined by Will.I.Am – who are we to argue?) version of Britney’s Toxic and won a place on Gavin Rossdale’s team.
The week that followed must have been a whirlwind for her as she was whisked away to appear on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, getting serenaded (if you can call it that) by Piers Morgan and receiving waves of support on social media from people across the UK who adored her individual style, powerful vocals and incredible levels of passion and individuality.

When it came to the battle round on February 26th, Ruth unfortunately lost out to her competitor but came out with these amazing words:
“Obviously I’m disappointed but you can’t let these things get you down. You’ve got to stay strong otherwise you’re not going to achieve anything. You’ve just got to carry on with it.”
We took this incredibly to heart; Ushiwear has been no easy ride to get to where we are but we’re overcome with pride in our achievements and all of our pitfalls have only made us stronger and prepared us for what the world can do. Over the last 9 years, we’ve gone from strength to strength living by our successes and learning from our mistakes. Our little Brilliantly British Ushiwear originated in our garage at home and we now have our own store, demand to do pop-ups and are posting orders out all over the world on a daily basis.
Ruth vowed that this wouldn’t be the last we saw of her. A graduate from Salford University in Musical Theatre and wants to pursue a career along those lines…and we certainly hope she does. She has the talent, the amazing maturity and the nerve to keep going and achieve all of her dreams.
Since then, she’s been posting about getting new headshots, supporting fellow contestants and thanking her new fans for their continued love.
Mood 🎶🙌🏼 thank you for all your support! not seen the last of me 💕😘 pic.twitter.com/b7od10l2qB
