Unique designer brand Ushiwear has set about travelling the length and breadth of the country as part of its pop-up-shop tour thanks to a growth expansion grant of £36k from The RGF Textile Growth Funding Programme.

Aimed at businesses within the textiles sector, the programme offers funding to promising businesses within the field that are well placed to help it reach its goal of creating 20,000 jobs in the UK by 2020.

Ushiwear was granted the funding after it demonstrated a commitment to expansion and job creation.

Established in 2008 by former blue-chip designer Jilly Kapushi and husband Neil, Ushiwear also has a retail store in Mirfield in which all of the clothing, labels, tags and packaging are printed by hand. Whereas the event trailer, complete with storage and merchandising space, is allowing the duo to reach a wider audience and tap into new markets.

Earlier in the year the clothing line revealed that they used a portion of the funding to open up a pop-up store in Leeds Trinity Shopping Centre – leading to a rapid increase in sales, and generating significant interest from new customers over a fourteen day period.

Since then, plans have been put in place to attend trade shows, family events and festivals and, thanks to the trailer, the team has been able to showcase their brand in comfort and style.

Jilly said: “It’s important for us to ensure that our customers have a great shopping experience and because the trailer is stocked with our range of casual wear and accessories for men, women and children – we can deliver just that.

“Living the adventure and being outdoors is at the heart of our brand and by having the trailer, it enables us to travel across the country and tell people our story.

“We plan to really put this trailer to the test over the next few months and especially across Christmas.”
